Nelson Mandela vs. Arthur Jarvis
Nelson Mandela was a great example and leader in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was arrested in 1962 for trying to stand up for what he knew was right and was sentenced to 5 years in prison with hard labor. He was released on February 11, 1990. He then charged right into the work that he had started before being thrown into prison. Nelson Mandela is like the character Arthur Jarvis in the novel Cry, the Beloved Country. Nelson Mandela and Arthur Jarvis both mended broken things in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was able to create a hope for the South African people and fought for what he knew was right. Arthur Jarvis also wanted the same things Mandela did. He wanted fairness in South Africa and he wanted the people to remember the importance of the land and respect each other. Nelson Mandela and Arthur Jarvis both had a love for South Africa and its people. This power of love led to a stronger country (in Mandela’s example) and a change of heart in James Jarvis (in Arthur’s example). These two examples prove the power of love and how it can unify people.
